In this article how we can have shared disks between Microsoft Windows Server and Unix through the protocol NFS<\/a>. We will see step by step how to create a Microsoft Windows NFS Server and how to mount the disks on Unix (RedHat \/ Oracle Linux 8). In Oracle databases shared disks are necessary in clustering processes such as for installation Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC)<\/a> and very useful in Export \/ Import processes between systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The installation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On Windows Server (NFS Server)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

For the installation we will use the example of the operating system Microsoft Windows Server 2019 Standard Edition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a first step we select on the screen Server Manager<\/em>, Add roles and features<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then in the window that will appear at Installation Type<\/em> we choose Role-based or feature-based installation<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then we choose Select a server from the server pool<\/em> and choose our server.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the next tab with Server Roles we select it <\/strong>Server for NFS<\/strong> <\/em>located below the File and Storage Services<\/em>, File and iSCSI Services<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the installation process it will ask us if we want it to restart and we will choose to do so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the server opens again, go to its screen Server Manager, File and Storage Services<\/em> and Shares<\/em><\/strong>. There we click on the option To create a file share, start the New Share Wizard<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the Wizard open, we choose NFS Share \u2013 Quick<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the next screen we define if we want to do Share entire disk or specific folder<\/strong>. For example I have shared a folder named NFS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then we define the name it will have Share<\/em> and shows us the Remote path to share<\/strong><\/em> with which we will be able to mount it on Unix systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then we choose the way it will do authentication<\/em>. For this particular case we choose No server authentication (AUTH_SYS), Enable unmapped user access, Allow Unmapped user access by UID\/<\/em><\/strong>GID <\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the next screen selecting Add\u2026<\/em><\/strong> we will add the machines that will have access and the right that they will have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After we choose Add\u2026<\/em>, we define at Host<\/em> the name of the machine, as Share permissions Read \/ Write<\/strong><\/em> and Allow root access<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now we will see that it has been created NFS Share<\/em> in the Server Manager <\/em>and we can from the TASKS<\/em> to repeat the process to add more if desired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally we make sure that it does not cut us Windows Defender Firewall<\/em>. In this case I turned it off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Unix machines<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Now we should go to each Unix machine (which in our case is Oracle Linux 8) and do mount<\/em><\/strong> the NFS Share.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First we connect with root user:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

su root<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n
We create the folder in which the File System will be mounted:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
mkdir -p \/oracle\/nfs<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n
To be sure that we will not cut our rights to the NFS Server, go to the exports file:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
vi \/etc\/exports<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n
And we add the following entry for each mount share:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\/oracle\/nfs         *(rw,sync,no_wdelay,insecure_locks,no_root_squash)<\/pre>\n\n\n\n
Then we restart the service:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
chkconfig nfs on\nservice nfs restart<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n
Then we go to the fstab file to add the nfs shares we want to mount:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
vi \/etc\/fstab<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n
The only thing we will have to configure from the following. is the first parameter with the Remote path to share<\/strong><\/em> (image 08) and the name of the folder we created to mount the File System:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then we mount it NFS Share<\/em> with the following command with the name of the folder we set to mount:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
mount \/oracle\/nfs<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n
Finally, define the user we want to be the owner of this folder and the rights he will have (the folder):<\/p>\n\n\n\n
chown -R oracle:oinstall \/oracle\/nfs\nchmod -R 775 \/oracle\/nfs<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n
To see that the disk has been mounted, execute the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
df<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n
And to see the owner and the rights of the folder that has been mounted in the File System, we run the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
