More specifically we can have<strong> an asynchronous second read-only Managed instance <\/strong>in the same or even in a different one <strong>region<\/strong>. We can at any time do <strong>failover <\/strong>to it or to happen automatically if for some reason the primary Managed Instance has a technical problem. This function is called <strong>Failover-Group<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dataplatform.gr\/en\/pos-ftiachnoyme-ena-sql-managed-instance-sto-azure\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">previous article<\/a> we had seen how to make one <strong>Managed Instance.<\/strong> We will keep this as primary and continue the steps from there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We will have to fix the way the two Managed Instances will communicate. One way is with <strong>ExpressRoute <\/strong>and the other one we will see now is in use <strong>Vnet-to-Vnet VPN Gateway<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>It is very important to follow the steps in order<\/strong>, as if a mistake is made it may not change. e.g. if we create the second Managed Instance in a subnet with the same mask (ip range) it will not work for any reason <strong>ip conflict <\/strong>and it will have to be rebuilt from scratch since we cannot change it afterwards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also before we start we should know that it is a process that takes many hours as the Managed Instance creation takes 4-6 hours, just as the Vnet gateways creation also takes a long time to deploy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The example<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>First, let&#039;s go to <em><strong>Virtual Network<\/strong><\/em> of the Primary Managed Instance<em>, Subnets, Gateway Subnets<\/em>. time zone<\/em> and as <em>Geo-Replication<\/em><strong> Use as failover secondary<\/strong> with<em> Primary Managed Instance<\/em> the name of the primary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image class=\"wp-element-caption\">10<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As long as we wait 4-6 hours for the secondary Managed Instance to be created we can build it <strong>Connection <\/strong>between Virtual Networks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We search in search <em>Connections<\/em> and then we choose <em>Add<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" beginning, define one <em>Shared Key <\/em>which their communication will make use of and <em>OK<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" group<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&#039;s go to <em>primary Managed Instance, Failover Groups<\/em> and <em>Add group<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img case of a technical problem and the grace period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>grace period<\/strong> is the time it will automatically failover from one instance to another. That is, we do not have direct access with this connection via the Internet.
