Which means we&#039;ll have to close the base and have it on <strong>mount state<\/strong> (not accessible by users) during the Backup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to take a backup in addition to the datafiles, we should also take a backup of the controlfile and spfile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is control file and spfile?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Control File<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>control file<\/strong>&nbsp;is the file that contains the name of the base, the location of the base files and the current log sequence number (lsn) or otherwise the time the base is located.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SPFILE<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>spfile&nbsp;<\/strong>contains the parameters needed to run the base instance. It contains information such as the name of the base, the resources it uses and the location of the control file. To edit it we should first have made a pfile (create pfile from spfile) based on it as we can only edit the pfile and not the spfile directly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have this feature by setting to&nbsp;<strong>RMAN (Oracle Recovery Manager)<\/strong>&nbsp;the order&nbsp;<code>CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP<\/code>&nbsp;<code>ON<\/code>&nbsp;to automatically get every time we backup the base and to control file and the spfile to the default location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The example<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In the example we will take <strong>offline backup<\/strong> compressed into one <strong>single <\/strong>instance base (not belonging to RAC) using RMAN (the tool provided by Oracle for backup\/restore) script.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First we will connect to the base with <strong>sqlplus<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\" data-enlighter-language=\"generic\" data-enlighter-theme=\"\" data-enlighter-highlight=\"\" data-enlighter-linenumbers=\"\" data-enlighter-lineoffset=\"\" data-enlighter-title=\"\" data-enlighter-group=\"\" data-no-translation=\"\" data-no-auto-translation=\"\">sqlplus \/ as sysdba<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>We will close the base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\" data-enlighter-language=\"generic\" data-enlighter-theme=\"\" data-enlighter-highlight=\"\" data-enlighter-linenumbers=\"\" data-enlighter-lineoffset=\"\" data-enlighter-title=\"\" data-enlighter-group=\"\" data-no-translation=\"\" data-no-auto-translation=\"\">shutdown immediate<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>We&#039;ll pick her up <strong>mount <\/strong>state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\" data-enlighter-language=\"generic\" data-enlighter-theme=\"\" data-enlighter-highlight=\"\" data-enlighter-linenumbers=\"\" data-enlighter-lineoffset=\"\" data-enlighter-title=\"\" data-enlighter-group=\"\" data-no-translation=\"\" data-no-auto-translation=\"\">startup mount<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>We exit from sqlplus to build and run the script in <strong>RMAN<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\" data-enlighter-language=\"generic\" data-enlighter-theme=\"\" data-enlighter-highlight=\"\" data-enlighter-linenumbers=\"\" data-enlighter-lineoffset=\"\" data-enlighter-title=\"\" data-enlighter-group=\"\" data-no-translation=\"\" data-no-auto-translation=\"\">exit<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>We create a file named param.rman with the corresponding parameters as below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\" data-enlighter-language=\"generic\" data-enlighter-theme=\"\" data-enlighter-highlight=\"\" data-enlighter-linenumbers=\"\" data-enlighter-lineoffset=\"\" data-enlighter-title=\"\" data-enlighter-group=\"\" data-no-translation=\"\" data-no-auto-translation=\"\">CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON;\nCONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO '\/folder\/fra\/backup\/CONTROL_%Y_%M_%D_%F.bck';\nCONFIGURE DEVICE TYPE DISK PARALLELISM 8 BACKUP TYPE TO compressed backupset ;\nCONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE DISK FORMAT '\/folder\/fra\/backup\/data_%Y_%M_%D_%U.bck';\nrun \n{\nbackup database filesperset 3;\n}<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>To run the script in RMAN we should have set the environment to <strong>ORACLE_SID<\/strong> and <strong>ORACLE_HOME<\/strong>.
